Writer & communicator on emerging technology

More than ever, we need rigorous discussions about emerging technology.

As a journalist, writer and educator with expertise in tech trends, I’m perfectly positioned to lead these discussions both within the tech community, and for the wider public.

I’m able to conduct independent research and investigations and turn this into meaningful, actionable insights and pertinent stories using my deep understanding of cutting-edge science and technology.

I’m clued-in to the most important challenges and questions facing those at the forefront of technological advances, but I’m equally dedicated to holding the tech sector to account on topics of public interest and social consequence.

My work goes beyond written journalism; I always look for the most effective and engaging methods to open up important conversations. My experience includes conference presentations, group workshops, podcasts, research reports, public campaigning and advisory work.

I am an experienced journalist and commentator covering technology, startups and scientific innovation. I'm always available to contribute at events (in moderator or speaker capacities) and I welcome off-the-record chats with anyone in the science or tech sector.

I'm particularly interested in so-called "deep tech" including artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptography and advanced computing. I also spend a little too much time pondering associated philosophical questions, both on and off the clock.

I regularly write news, analysis pieces, longread features and data-driven reports for print and online. I have recently covered topics like innovation in healthcare; biometrics for online payments; Google and IBM's battle for quantum supremacy; and many more.

If you catch me during recreational hours I'll likely still be talking about tech in some way. Highlights of my dinner party chats tend towards computational theory; Alan Turing (my hero); post-quantum cryptography; and epistemological obligations for self-driving cars.

Beyond tech I'm also dedicated to thinking, reading and writing about gender and LGBTQ topics and social issues. My most significant personal indulgence is in theatre and literature, and I am also working on my own fiction writing.
